i'd love to be brilliant, but my thought is limited at the moment. i've been struck by one thing recently - that no matter how much we as humans deny it, we can't get away from letting things bother us. the timeless cliché "sticks and stones may break my bones, but word will never hurt me" is so blatantly false it's amazing that it has lasted this long. Christina Aguilera, outdoing her appearance with the incoherence of her lyrics, says in one of her songs, "...your words can't bring me down/so don't bring me down today" (i do, of course, have an excuse for knowing those lyrics - she sang it on snl). in one line she denies a fact of life only to admit in the very next breath that she was lying.

words cut deep. no matter how convinced i am that words are cheap, that few people mean what they say and even fewer say what they mean, it doesn't change the fact that those words mean something - they spark thought, whether you're convinced that they're false in and of themselves or not. it never ceases to confound me how the easiest action we can take (saying something) can have the most profound effect - it's a testament to the rest of the simple things that end up meaning more than we know, be they negative or positive.

a road sign pointing to the larger truth that it does actually pay to sweat the small stuff from time to time? of course. but the notion itself amazes me, and i can't get past the fact that no matter how much i tell myself otherwise, words plant seeds in my mind that i can't get out, and they become real through the thoughts they spawn, whether the original statement were truthful or not. they create truth for themselves.

i just got majorly distracted, so i'm done rambling for now. time for bed (because it's now after 4 - woo).
